Quarantine supper tonite... Live from NYC...
Vanilla skies this morning... last drizzles from yesterday’s storm... squirrels back at it... digging holes in the defrosted grass... leaving shells askew on the deck railing... sun finally popping through late afternoon... just in time for grocery delivery to Moms. Sat with her... masked... more than 6’ away... chatting while she ate supper... chicken... farro... mixed vegetables... delicious cheesecake her aide cooked up for New Years Day... how sweet (pun intended)
Got back a bit late... hubs was getting hungry... her menu motivated our supper tonite... leftover chicken from leg quarters roasted Saturday... farro cooked with garlic, onion, oregano, thyme, chicken stock and butter to finish... butternut squash cubes roasted with cinnamon... mushrooms stuffed with goat cheese and of course, wine... Cabernet Sauvignon. Finished off with ruby grapefruit... mandarin sections... and swiss.
It was a far cry from our Christmas goodies explosion (that needed to end before we both became chubbers 😂) ... thank goodness we gave away the majority of... six huge batches of cookies... chocolate chippers... lemon thyme shortbread... chocolate shortbread... grandmas almond cookies... peanut butter kiss cookies... molasses crinkle cookies... and all the other treats... chocolate covered pretzel rods rolled in chocolate chips, salted peanuts or plain... NYTimes Rice Crispy Treats... magic bars... and a gingerbread house. It was such fun making it all... and now that it’s finished... time to take a break from sweets... for a couple of days anyway 😂
A new strain of Covid has hit the US... 50% more contagious... just as lethal... health care workers and hospitals swamped... this is not the time to become lackadaisical... you know what to do... mask up... limit social interactions... leave goodies for friends and family on the porch and wave from the sidewalk... blow kisses via video chat... and wash those germy hands 😷💕
